10,000 Steps a Day Keeps the Dr. Away!

Pics from my 4 mile evening walk in the neighborhood tonight. I brought my safety flashlight and didn’t run into any dogs this time. Thanks @amysunshinexoxo for the earbuds (my sister’s gift to me for helping her move). They are awesome! I love my running/walking outings. They give me time to think and listen to cool podcasts. Tonight I listened to another awesome @timferriss show on investing with @m2jr It was one of my favorites. Im from Texas and am a bit slow though so I might listen to it again just to recap. If I could only take away one idea from that podcast it would be: find what you are passionate about and make it happen regardless of what others may think or if it seems crazy. I try get my #10000steps in everyday and get so excited when I reach my goal and the fireworks goes off on my Fitbit. I decided to share tonight’s step goal celebration with you. Lol enjoy! #eveningwalk #getoutside #enjoythejourney #unathlete #podcasts #strava #cancersurvivor #movemore #powerbeats @beatsbydre #moonwalk #runtyler #run #stepgoal #steps #fireworks #goals #passion #dreams #goafterit #siezetheday

You Can Make a Difference!

View this post on Instagram

One of the greatest joys is helping others. Everyone needs a little encouragement and you could make all the difference in the world. Maybe it’s just a kind word that’s needed or taking time to listen to someone share what’s going on in their life. Being a cancer survivor has allowed me to encourage people that are going through such a difficult time and an encouraging word could go a long way. I am thankful for all the friends I have met along my journey. Even before cancer I had a desire to change my life and share my story to help motivate people to take action. There’s really nothing special about me personally, but I can do some very special things if I just take the opportunity, and you can too! Please take a moment and go out of your way to encourage someone today. #helpothers #motivation #getmoving #getoutofyourcomfortzone #give #care #listen #bethechange #goldenrule #changeyourlife #share #cancersurvivor #thyca #thycawarrior #encouragement

What A Run!

One Year Since Surgery!

View this post on Instagram

Today marks one year since I had my thyroid cancer surgery in Tampa Florida by the talented @live_it_lifestyle I lost my throid gland, 57 lymph nodes and a bit of tissue around my throat because the cancer had spread much more than previously expected. There was a 14″ incision around my neck. Thyroid cancer is a pain in the neck!! My surgeon did an amazing job and I ate sushi and walked up and down the halls that same night. It wasn’t easy, but it was important for me to start off strong and keep that momentum going. I am sorry that I waited so long to share a post surgery pic, but I wanted to show a victory and wanted to put in some work first. Now I am 47lbs lighter than I was last fall and I’m determined to outlive whoever reads this (in experience if not in years) Since my surgery I have fought to recover as quickly as possible and be as strong as possible so that I can one day put all this behind me. I have a long way to go but I’m headed in the right direction. I hope that along my journey I am fortunate enough to help others on similar paths and spread awareness of thyroid cancer. If you have or had thyroid cancer and have a question regarding my experience, I am happy to share if it will help. Enjoy your life. Don’t let cancer control you. Take control with what you can and work hard to get your life back. I was able to run a 10k and a 15k and am signed up for two half marathons and a triathlon this year and I’m hoping to do a half Ironman this fall it early spring and an Ironman in the fall of 2019. I know these are crazy goals. Follow my journey to see what happens. #thyca #thycawarrior #papillarythyroidcancer #thyroidectomy #thyroidcancer #cancersurvivor #canceranniversary #keto #ketoathlete #unathlete #fitfam #weightloss #weightlossjourney #futureironman #fightcancer #keepgoing #endurancetraining #bestrong #godisgood #allthetime #goals

I Have Come so Far in a Year!!

About a year ago (April 10th, 2017) I had surgery to remove my thyroid gland, part of my throat tissue and 57 lymph nodes with a complete neck dissection by the unbelievably talented @live_it_lifestyle I had a 14″ incision and looked like Nearly Headless Nick lol. I am so thankful I found such an amazing surgeon to help me. I will try to post some post surgery pics later this week or early next week.11 months later God allowed me to finish the @fresh15k If that isn’t something to be excited about, I don’t know what is. It’s been a crazy year and there were some really scary times where I never would have thought I’d be where I’m at now. I still have a long way to go, but I’m so excited about how far I have been and where I’m headed. Enjoy every moment of life you have and go do whatever it is you decide to do. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back. #unathlete #cancersurvivor #thyca #thycawarrior #thyroidectomy #thyroidcancer #running #run #runtyler #fresh15k #fresh15 #godisgood #allthetime #enjoythejourney #tgh #ketoathlete #keto
