It’s your weaknesses and your hard times that are opportunities for you to become stronger. Im an UnAthlete because despite not being someone you would probably think of to be athletic, I am determined to defy the odds and overcome. Here are some “Un” words that I hope encourage you as much as they do me: #unlimited #underestimated #unbelievable #unafraid #unwavering #unceasing #unique #unexpected #unrelenting #undefeated #underdog #unselfish #unathlete Instagram has been an amazing tool enabling me to reach out to people literally all over the world offering encouragement to those in need, particularly thyroid cancer survivors. Enabling everyone to come together and learn from others and share burdens to allow each of us to be stronger. You are stronger than you think you are. Just take a step. Tomorrow you will be glad you did. #fitfam #fitlifestyle #healthylifestyle #helpothers #thycawarrior #cancersurvivor #cancerthriver #wordcloud

Thyroid Awareness Week!

View this post on Instagram

This is International Thyroid Awareness Week! One in five people have a thyroid disorder and only half of those people are aware. Your thyroid affects so many aspects of your health. Go get your neck checked! I got lucky! My doctor just happened to find a lump in my neck during a routine annual checkup. I had never really been sick before. Nobody expected that I had advanced papillary thyroid cancer that had mastesized (spread into my neck and shoulder. What if i hadn’t gone to get checked out? Let’s not think about that. This pic was taken when I first got home from surgery. I had my thyroid removed along with some throat tissue and 57 lymph nodes. This moment was the first time I felt halfway decent and couldn’t wait to take a pic to show everyone that I’m a survivor. I’m here to fight! My one year post cancer check-up is tomorrow. I usually don’t share stuff like this beforehand, but I could use the prayers. I should get results sometime next week. I will keep y’all posted. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m determined to be stronger than I ever was before cancer. I’ve lost just over 50lbs and I’m working hard everyday to change my life and to do more for others that are going through what I did last year. If I can help others have a better quality of life and be stronger too, it’s all worth it. I started UnAthlete to help motivate others to get out, be active and change their lifestyle. So many people are going through tough times right now. A kind word of encouragement is all it takes sometimes to lift someone’s spirits. UnAthlete has 14 runners in this year’s Wounded Warrior Half Marathon on June 10th in Irving Texas! Stay tuned and I’ll keep you posted on my journey and the development of UnAthlete. #thyroiddisease #thyroidawareness #thyroidectomy #thyroidcancer #papillarythyroidcancer #thycawarrior #cancersurvivor #canceranniversary #hashimotos #getyourneckchecked #getchecked #unathlete #helpothers #getmoving #changeyourlife #futureironman #thyroid #thyroidcancerisapainintheneck #funnytshirt #cancershirt #weightlossjourney #fitnessjourney #ketoathlete #ketotransformation #keto #glutenfree #lifestyleblogger #lifestylechange

What a difference a year can make! The top pic is me a few weeks ago enjoying my lunch at Rose Rudman park. The bottom pic is from last March (2017). I was in San Francisco with my sister and had just been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. I was overweight and overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty. Now I am down 50lbs and have run a Sprint triathlon, a 15k and a 10k since surgery and radiation and I’m just getting started. Over the last year I have really came a long way. There wasn’t any magic, just God’s grace and a lot of hard work. It’s the product of making the best of one day at a time… everyday, even when you don’t feel like it or think you can. #weightlossjourney #transformation #50lbsdown #cancersurvivor #thycawarrior #weightloss #weightlosstransformation #keto #ketoathlete #unathlete #ketotransformation #thyroidcancer #keepgoing #motivation #overcome #fitfam #fitlifestyle #workout #diet #healthyeating #eatclean #hardwork #fatloss #getfit #instafit #running #fitnessjourney #weightlossmotivation
