Invest In Your Goals Today By Nathan Woodfin on August 1, 2018March 25, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram Do what you can today, so that tomorrow you can do more! After surgery and radiation I really had to learn what it means to “take things one day at a time.” Challenge yourself and set goals that are applicable to you. Everyone is at a different place in their life and it’s easy to get frustrated if you’re constantly comparing yourself to others. Be thankful for where you are and where you are going even if it isn’t where you would like to be. A post shared by UnAthlete (@unathlete_com) on Aug 1, 2018 at 7:17am PDT
Laps For Lunch By Nathan Woodfin on July 29, 2018March 25, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram Took this on a lunch break swim and hasn’t posted. Now that I’m training everyday, being more efficient and scheduling sessions make a huge difference. Knocking out a swim during my lunch break makes me feel like I really accomplished something and I try to keep that momentum going all day. On Sunday I get my training plan from my coach @williamtritter and I put it on a calendar on the fridge and put what time of the day I need to do what workout. Now if I can just remember all these drills he wants me to do in the pool! #justkeepswimming #doyouspeakwhale #dontthinkofsnakes #yesiknowitscrazy A post shared by UnAthlete (@unathlete_com) on Jul 29, 2018 at 12:58pm PDT
Running Gives Me Time To Think… By Nathan Woodfin on July 24, 2018March 25, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram Running provides an opportunity to think, meditate and pray. I use this time to identify things that I need to work on and how I can do more and be better. It’s way better than just thinking about running. The Cold Is My Warm Friend – Wim Hof By Nathan Woodfin on July 23, 2018March 23, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram I did a thing the other day and thought I would share. It’s recovery Monday! Rest and recovery is a workout and is no less important than anything else you are doing for your fitness journey. I felt great and less sore after a cryotherapy session from @subzerotyler. I was a little concerned about if I would like it or not, but it was pretty cool (corny pun intended). Going more than 200 degrees below zero really was tolerable and is great for inflammation among other things. They made me feel comfortable and answered all of my questions. I’ll be back! Carpe Diem By Nathan Woodfin on July 21, 2018March 23, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram Sometimes you have to do things that you don’t want to. Maybe it’s a workout or getting up early or something else. Don’t let these things hold you back. They just build up and it’s hard to catch up later. Go do what you need to do and you’ll be glad you did. I procrastinate too, but I’m working on it! Go eat your frog! #carpediem A post shared by UnAthlete (@unathlete_com) on Jul 21, 2018 at 7:25am PDT
Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable Isn’t Easy. By Nathan Woodfin on July 19, 2018March 23, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram Aaarrrrrrggghhhhh! My pain face from a spin workout the other night. It definitely reminded me of this skit with Chris Farley. Thanks to coach @williamtritter for snapping this and sharing it with me. It’s good to have someone that helps you dig deep and do more than you thought you were able to. #smartbiketrainers A post shared by UnAthlete (@unathlete_com) on Jul 19, 2018 at 11:01am PDT
I ran out of gas… By Nathan Woodfin on July 18, 2018March 21, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram I ran out of gas on a ride in the hot sun this weekend and pulled over at this abandoned fuel station to get some water and some shade. I thought this was a fitting picture for the moment. A few minutes later, I happened to look up and felt a lot less welcomed there. That’s one of the biggest wasp nests I have ever seen and it was right over my head! Luckily I didn’t get stung. A post shared by UnAthlete (@unathlete_com) on Jul 18, 2018 at 9:37am PDT
Why I Run. By Nathan Woodfin on July 1, 2018March 19, 2019Leave a Comment View this post on Instagram I’M RUNNING FOR MY LIFE! You don’t see anything chasing me, as I cross the finish line of the Wounded Warrior Half Marathon in Irving a couple weeks ago, but I am in fact running for my life. Behind this huge smile (and this totally sexy BreatheRight strip) is a thyroidless, formerly obese (according to my Dr. – I preferred the term “husky”) cancer survivor trying to make a difference in my life and others. Here is why I run: I RUN FOR MY HEALTH. Looking at my page, you probably think that I love to run. You might even think that I consider myself a runner. In January of this year, I couldn’t run a mile. I actually don’t like running (although I have found that I hate it much less now than I did previously). Cancer was a wake up call for me to change my life for the better, forever. Exercise (along with rest and a healthy diet) is medicine. For the record, I don’t like taking medicine either, but I do it anyway. The healthier I get, the better I feel. The harder I work, the stronger I become. Listen to your body and challenge yourself to do something that you didn’t think you could. I RUN TO BE AN EXAMPLE to others. My kid looks up to me. I want to be a good example of what a healthy dad looks like. I also hope to motivate others. Everyday I reach out to people going through some of their darkest times. I have a passion to help others and to share my story of where I’ve been, where I am now and where I am going. I RUN BECAUSE I CAN. I couldn’t do a whole lot last year, although I sure worked hard. Being sick is just no fun. With surgery and radiation I was pretty unsure of how soon I could do things again. My surgery was in April of 2017 and then radiation in June, but I was able to complete the Rose City Tri in September. That was still the hardest I have worked and the most amazing victory I have had, crossing that finish line. I RUN FOR OTHERS THAT CAN’T. My heart is burdened for those that are sick, disabled, fighting cancer or thyroid diseases. Maybe you can’t get out and do much right now. That’s ok. Keep fighting and know, that: I RUN FOR YOU!
